SWAT called after smoke fills north Houston hotel room, man peacefully taken into custody

HOUSTON, TX - In north Houston, SWAT was called to the Suburban Studios hotel along the North Freeway after heavy smoke filled a room and activated the sprinkler system.

Police said civilians initially tried to check on the man inside but called police after he was reportedly acting in a threatening manner and possibly armed.

Negotiators were able to get him to exit peacefully shortly after 5 a.m. He was taken into custody and evaluated by the Houston Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing.
